Sue Toney, born Saturday, August 6, 1938 in Erin, TN, the daughter of Nolen and Lottie (Harris) Parker went to be with Jesus, Wednesday, July 24, 2024. She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Charles Fletcher Toney; also her parents, three brothers, Nolen (Landy), Charles (Junebug), and Vernon Parker and two sisters, Frances (Sis) Rogers and Bernice Lyle.
She graduated from Houston County High School in May of 1957, moved to Nashville where she met and married Charles Toney on August 30, 1957 after a six week courtship.
She was a loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and a good friend to many. She was a very hard-working woman and worked full time into her late 70s. She started at Murdock Mendelsohn on the public square in Nashville and ended her working career after serving Haury and Smith Contractors as bookkeeper and property manager for 26 years, retiring in 2015 at the age of 77. She thoroughly enjoyed her work and the relationships she built with her clients and colleagues. She kept many of those relationships long after the work connection ended. Her time not spent working was spent with her husband, children and grandchildren. She had a great love for her family and enjoyed being with them. She was ever the proud grandmother. She babysat often, attended ballgames and dance recitals and worked in her yard and garden. She liked watching things, especially flowers, grow.
A long-time member of Metro Baptist Church, she is survived by her son, Randy (Rhonda) Toney, her daughter Lisa (Steve) Wilkerson; four grandchildren – Charlie (Jessica) Toney, Michelle (Matthew) Delk, Kendrick and Kaylea Wilkerson; three great grandchildren – Murray, Maddox and Millie; and one brother, Billy Parker.
The family would like to express its deepest appreciation to the nurses and staff at Clarendale at Indian Lake Memory Care for their loving and compassionate care for mom.
