

Thaddeus Floyd (Thad) Martin, age 98, affectionately known as Pop and G-Pop, born Friday, August 14, 1914, went to be with his Lord and Savior peacefully on Sunday, May 26, 2013. He is preceded in death by his wife of 70 years, Marie G. Martin.
His life began in Flat Creek, Bedford County; he attended school there and graduated from Central High School in Murfreesboro in 1933. In 1938 he Married Marie Gowen in Bedford County, TN and they began their journey of life together. He was a farmer for many years and became a “self-taught” electrician.
During WWII he served the War effort by working in the Shipyard of Wilmington, DE and Philadelphia, PA, by doing electrical work on destroyers and aircraft carriers. After the war he was employed with John Ashe Electric Company in Philadelphia until retirement in 1980.
He and his wife then moved to Lake Havasu City, AZ and spent 17 years there, also traveling in their motor home throughout the west. He attended Parkway Baptist in Goodlettsville after returning to Tennessee in 1997.
He was “one of a kind”, an unforgettable man who loved the Lord, family, and friends. He lived independently, had a host of memories written about in his autobiography “That’s the Gist of It” in 2012. The Lord blessed him with keen mind and resilient sprit which kept him alert and mobile all of his 98 well-lived years.
He is survived by his loving family; his son, Nick (Sandy) Martin; three grandchildren, Sue (Timm) Glover, Doug (Karla) Martin, and Cyndi (Adam) Bannach; 8 great-grandchildren, Reed Glover, Christi, Jon, Luke Summer and Baylee Martin, Carolina and Addison Bannach and many friends throughout the U.S.
A Celebration of Life will be 12:00 Friday, May 31, 2013 in the chapel of Forest Lawn Funeral Home with Rev. Ken Castleberry officiating. In lieu of flowers, please donate to Gideon Bibles. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers are Adam Bannach, Timm Glover, Reed Glover, Doug Martin, Jon Martin, Luke Martin, Rocky Monda. Honorary Pallbearers are the Forum Class of Parkway Baptist Church.
Family and friends will gather for a visitation ot remember Mr. Martin Thursday, May 30, 2013 from 4:00 until 8:00 and Friday an hour prior to the service at Forest Lawn 1150 South Dickerson Rd. Goodlettsville, TN 37072
