Douglas Duane Boers passed away unexpectedly on September 9, 2016. He was born August 19, 1950 to Howard Lorraine Boers and Donna (Reiman) Boers in Spencer, IA. After graduating from Milford High School in 1968 he lived and worked in Minneapolis for a few years. He then moved back to Sherburn, MN to help on the family farm and dairy. He followed the family business to Arizona in 1977 and often split his time between Buckeye and Sherburn.
Doug was a good and kind man. He lived his faith with a generous heart. He served as an usher and greeter at St. Henry’s Church in Buckeye and most recently at St. John Vianney Church in Avondale. He looked forward to his days of volunteering at The Attic at the White House. He also enjoyed doing yard work and handyman projects. Being an avid reader he was also a great conversationalist. If you ever had the good fortune to sit and have a beer (dark, please!) with him you would probably be impressed with the knowledge he possessed. You would never lose at Trivial Pursuit if he was your partner.
Doug was also a collector. In his eyes everything could be re-purposed, so every man’s junk was his treasure. He did not drive so if you frequented Old Town Avondale you probably saw him walking. He was the little man with the gray beard, denim vest and hat – often with a backpack or cart in tow – because you never know what treasures are waiting to be discovered.
Doug is survived by his mother, Donna; eight brothers and sisters, Larry (Sharon), Bob (Marsha), Connie Helmers (Dennis), Kathy Knuth (Kevin), Scott (Terri), Mic (Dana), Dave (Anne), and Casey Khaleesi (Clara); aunt, Darlene McCrae; 31 nieces and nephews and 53 great-nieces and great-nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Howard Lorraine, his grandparents, aunts and uncles.
A funeral mass will be held at 10:00 am, Wednesday, September 28, 2016 at St. John Vianney Catholic Church, 539 E La Pasada Blvd, Goodyear, AZ.
