Edward DeLaCruz Riojas Jr., born on October 10, 1953, in Phoenix, Arizona, passed away peacefully on July 18, 2026. He spent his life in Arizona, making his home in Avondale, where he built a legacy of hard work, unwavering love, and devotion to his family.
Edward proudly served his country as a United States Marine, carrying with him the values of honor, strength, and integrity throughout his life. Following his military service, he dedicated many years as an engineer for Holsum Bakery, where he earned the respect of those around him through his incredible work ethic, humility, and commitment.
Above all else, Edward’s greatest pride was his family. He was a devoted husband to his beloved wife, Lily Riojas, and a loving father to Desiree, Brianna, Larissa, and Josh. He was a proud grandfather to seven grandchildren who brought immeasurable joy to his life. He also leaves behind his loving siblings: Beatrice Jones, Delphina Riojas, Johnny Riojas, Maryann Shobe, Hellen Coppinger, David Riojas, Paul Riojas, Robert Riojas, Danny Riojas, Alfie Barajas, and Joann Vega, along with many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends who will miss him deeply.
Edward found happiness in the simple things that made life meaningful. He loved camping beneath the stars, spending quiet mornings fishing, crafting beautiful pieces from iron and wood while listening to his favorite music, and ending his evenings watching classic westerns before reading his Bible. His faith, his family, and his values guided the way he lived every day.
Those who knew Edward will remember his infectious sense of humor, his humble spirit, and his willingness to lend a helping hand. He loved making people laugh, worked tirelessly to provide for those he loved, and never sought recognition for his kindness. To his daughters, he was the very definition of a “girl dad”—their protector, biggest supporter, and constant source of unconditional love. To his grandchildren, he was a hero whose wisdom, laughter, and gentle heart created memories that will be cherished forever.
Edward’s life was one of service, sacrifice, and love. While our hearts are broken by his passing, we find comfort knowing that his legacy lives on in the family he treasured, the lessons he taught, and the love he gave so freely.
He will be forever loved, deeply missed, and never forgotten.
