Elaine graduated from Augustana University in 1962 with a Bachelor of Arts in elementary education and later earned a Master of Arts in geography from Arizona State University in 1970. Her career in education was marked by her dedication and contributions to the Dysart District, where she taught various grades, implemented a social studies curriculum, developed and taught a Gifted and Talented program, assisted in rewriting teacher evaluation policies, and served as a student teacher supervisor. Elaine was an active member of the National Education Association and the Arizona Education Association. She served as president of the Dysart Education Association in 1977, 1982, and 1988, and chaired the salary and benefits committee in 1992. Her excellence in teaching was recognized when she was selected for Who's Who Among America's Teachers.
Elaine was a charter member of Westridge (Alleluia) Lutheran Church and served on the Church Council. After retiring from education, she cherished her time at her cabin in Prescott and found joy in creating flower arrangements, decorating her home for Christmas, playing at casinos or on her electronic tablet, and betting on college football games. She also enjoyed watching fighter jets fly daily from Luke Air Force Base and caring for her two beloved cats, Grayhawk and Cali.
Elaine is survived by her daughter, Lisa Simon; granddaughter, Trisha Horvath; great-grandson, Hayden; and great-granddaughters, Karli and Kira.
