Mr. John Michael Fowlie, 75, of Glendale, Arizona died March 31, 2022 in Phoenix, Arizona. He was born January 12, 1947 in Dallas, Texas to John Paul Fowlie and Louise Fowlie (Layton). After relocating to Arizona with his family John attended Central High School where he played football and he graduated in 1965.
John was a beloved husband, father, and grandfather. John married the love of his life, Beverly, on October 2, 1971. John never met a stranger. He loved meeting new people and making new friends; which helped as an employee of Bashas’ for over 40 years, retiring as manager of the meat department. A life-long learner, John was a self-taught computer guru and a self-proclaimed computer nerd.
John was a fan of Volkswagen Beetles and he loved driving around in his 1977 Chevy truck. He loved talking to anybody about his vehicles and could often be seen out on Sunday mornings driving around town with his daughter. John also enjoyed restoring his mother’s older Nissan Sentra with his son, JJ, so he could have it as his first car. In his free time, he loved going to the local animal shelter to visit; John had a soft spot for all animals. He also spent time building and flying radio control airplanes; this was one of his biggest passions. John loved adventure. He looked forward to the yearly big family summer vacations to San Diego, where he would hunt for shells, build sandcastles and spend time on the beach. His biggest adventure was visiting his daughter and son-in-law in Alaska. He ended up loving everything about Alaska, especially the fresh crab legs, salmon and halibut.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Beverly Jean Fowlie (Heller); daughter, Ashley (Charles) Hodge; son, John James (Amberly) Fowlie; sisters Patti (Rick) Dye and Terri (Dan) Becktold; and brother Daniel (Annette) Fowlie. He is also survived by four grandchildren: Kassia Hodge (13), Kylie Hodge (9), Avery Fowlie (7) and Hudson Fowlie (4). He was preceded in death by his parents, Louis and John Fowlie.
