Judith M. Fryman of Avondale, Arizona passed away July 31, 2023 at the age of 79. She was born July 29, 1944 in Milan, Indiana to Walter and Celia Montgomery both of whom preceded her in death. She is also predeceased by her brother Ronald W. Montgomery and great-granddaughter Gracie L. O’Hearn.
She leaves behind her husband of 63 years, Wayne G. Fryman, daughter Melissa D. Morgan (Daniel), son Russell W. Fryman (Kimberly), and brothers James and Harold Montgomery. She also leaves behind seven grandchildren: Jake Campbell, Allison Schwemley, Lysa O’Hearn, Lauren Wilson, Anastasia Fryman, Daniel Fryman, and Dominic Fryman, and two great-grandchildren Ellie O’Hearn and JT Campbell.
Judy grew up in Indiana where she graduated from Moores Hill Highschool in 1962. She went on to study nursing at the Indiana University Medical School. She married Wayne on December 21, 1963. They had been dating since 1959, and Wayne asked her to marry him when they were sophomores in high school. It was a match that was meant to be. Together, the raised their children all over the country and even in Italy thanks to the Air Force. The family visited Roma, Pisa, Venice, went camping in the Swiss Alps, swam in the Mediterranean and so many more places. When Wayne retired, he and Judy went on many cruises and visited Alaska, the Caribbean Sea, Gulf of Mexico, and the Panama Canal.
Judy was an active member of the Avondale Baptist Church where she served on the Women’s Committee, the Red Hat Society, and was a Sunday School Teacher for more than 55 years. She was a devout Christian who read the Bible, sang cantatas in her lovely alto voice, and was once a member of the church choir.
Judy was an amazing cook but her Spaghetti alla Carbonara was the family favorite. She also made an amazing Red Velvet Cake for special occasions. Earlier in life, she was an avid bowler and coached bantam bowling. She loved going to Las Vegas and would win Royal Flush at least once a year. She was an avid gamer who enjoyed the Super Mario games and loved playing them with her grandkids. When she wasn’t playing virtual sports, she was an avid baseball and football fan. She would tell anybody who asked her opinions about her favorite teams: the Diamondbacks and Arizona Cardinals.
Judy’s proudest accomplishment was her family. She was so proud of Russ and Miss and their families. She cared deeply about people and had a soft heart. When she asked how you were doing, she wasn’t just being nice. She really wanted to know how you were. She had a beautiful smile and was a genuinely nice person. To her husband, she was his darlin’, his girlfriend, and the very best friend he ever had. To her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, she was the most caring and amazing person they knew.
Judy will be missed by all who knew her. While we know her gentle soul is at rest in heaven and reunited with her beloved dog Red, our hearts are broken. Her memory will live on in our hearts.
A visitation will begin at 10am with the funeral starting at 11am, Tuesday, August 8 at Avondale Baptist Church.
