Born on August 23, 1947 in Albuquerque, New Mexico, he grew up in Phoenix, Arizona. He later attended Andres High School in El Paso, Texas where he graduated in 1965.
Gary lived a life defined by hard work, dedication and deep commitment to his family. He was a proud member of the UA Plumbers and Pipefitters Union Local 469, joining in 1971.
Early in his career, he worked for Goettl Brothers Air Conditioning, where he developed the skills and strong work ethic that guided him throughout his life.
Gary began working at the Palo Verde Nuclear Generating Station with Arizona Public Service in 1979, where he worked for 35 years until his retirement.
In 1983, Gary built the home where he lived for more than four decades. It remained his home until his passing and stands as a reflection of his independence, craftsmanship and perseverance.
Outside of work, Gary enjoyed playing blackjack in Laughlin, Nevada, taking winery trips to Napa and Sonoma Valley (adding to his wine collection) and planting and tending his vegetable garden. These simple pleasures brought him much pride and joy.
To those who knew him well, Gary could seem gruff on the outside. But beneath that exterior he was thoughtful, intelligent, had a great sense of humor and cared deeply about those around him.

He is survived by his wife, his son Christopher Keenen of Lincoln, Nebraska, his daughter Bethany Sankot of Rio Rancho, New Mexico and younger brother Bill.
