Helen Fisher was born in 1933 in Fort Wayne, Indiana, to Adam and Esther Beach. Her father was a German immigrant. Her Baptism Certificate was bigger than she was!
Her father taught her to play cards and she became an excellent card player. She was very competitive. She was an only child but had cousins to play with on the cousins’ farm.
Helen was a good student and athlete. She played volley ball in high school and as an adult. Indeed, she played competitive volley ball into her 50’s.
In 1952, she married Lee Fisher. They soon had two sons, Scott and Mark. Lee and Helen built their own first house, there for 5 years. She and Lee moved to first, South Bend, and later to Bristol, Indiana. They built their second house. It in Bristol ,they raised their children. Helen worked at Bristol Products, beginning as a secretary and becoming the executive assistant to the company’s president and CEO.
In the early 1980’s, Lee was transferred to Greenville, SC. Helen followed and they established a home there. They became members of Messiah Lutheran Church. Helen found work as an executive assistant at Wilson Sporting Goods in Simpsonville, SC. She was also active in her church, serving as Treasurer for many years.
Helen had always enjoyed the competition of sports and playing cards. She was supportive of her sons' interest in academics and sports. She was also an excellent seamstress. She loved to do needle work. With a team at church, Helen helped to embroider vines and grapes on the kneeling pads for Holy Communion.
Over the years, Helen was a breast cancer and lung cancer survivor. She had a couple heart attacks. They put a cow's valve in her heart. She was quite proud of that! It served her well as she lived to 92! Nonetheless, Helen and Lee began to have health issues in the later years. Ultimately, they moved to Arizona to be near great grandchildren. Lee died in 2024. They had been married for 72 years.
The family are all very grateful for all the staff of Orchard Pointe Arrowhead in Glendale who cared for both Lee and Helen through many health issues. The nurses and aids were patient, kind and funny! Sylvia Espinoza answered so many questions! Desert Valley Hospice staff and volunteers. Nurse Marija gave weekly reports. Chapel Patty visited weekly and prayed and read God's Word to her. Donna, another volunteer, brought flowers!
Helen is survived by her sons: Scott Fisher and Mark Fisher; Scott's wife, Ruth. Grandchildren are Caleb & his wife, Amanda, with great grandchildren, Dillon, Harmony, and Samuel; granddaughter Annaliese; granddaughter Gretchen, her husband, Lance with great grandchildren, Hayden, Lyric, and Astrid.
We thank God for Helen's life and faith in Jesus Christ as her Savior!
