Born and raised in a little town called Coldwater, which eventually was renamed to Avondale.
There he attended elementary, middle, and high school. During high school, he participated in various sports, including basketball and football. He was crowned Homecoming King, voted Most Popular, and voted Most Athletic. He was part of the team that reached the state championship in football twice. He was loved and adored by many many friends.
After high school, he attended Mesa Community College for a few years. Following college, he started a janitorial business but later decided to serve his country by enlisting in the Army, where he served for several years.
Growing up he always played the father role to his younger siblings combing their hair, helping them get dressed, making sure they were always looking their best.
After leaving the Army and returning to Avondale, he began attending church and accepted Christ into his life. He found joy in participating in church activities and ultimately discovered a second home there.
On August 6th, Horace peacefully passed away in Avondale Az at the age of 71. He leaves behind his older sister Frankie Mae Fields of California and 3 younger brothers Paul Batts, Elray Batts and George Batts all of Phoenix Arizona. He is preceded in death by his parents Florida Mae and Luther Batts. His 3 sisters Raylee Lott, Elmarie Batts and Nancy Batts. Brother-in-Law Fortune Fields and James Lott, along with many other loved ones.
Horace has gained his wings and became our guardian angel. We will miss you, Mr. Horace Lee Batts. You will be missed by many and loved by all.
Viewing & Visitation will be held at Thompson Funeral Chapel, 926 South Litchfield Road, Goodyear, Arizona 85338, on September 11, 2026, from 9:00 am to 10:30 am, followed by the Funeral Service on September 11, 2026, beginning at 10:30 am.
Burial will take place at National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona, 2929 E Pinnacle Peak Rd, Phoenix, Arizona 85024, on September 11, 2026, at 2:00 pm.
