Commonly known as Jack, he was born November 12th, 1930 in Yakima, Washington. At an early age his family moved to Golden, Colorado. Jack spent his youth in the Denver area riding and working with horses. He enlisted a year earlier than eligible in the Navy and proudly served in the Korean War as well as a tour of duty in the Mediterranean Sea with ports of call in France, Monaco, Italy and Greece. When he returned from serving our country, he married Margie Schlitt and began a family. Jack exemplifies the American success story as he started at an entry level in the Hoover Company repairing vacuum cleaners, eventually getting involved in sales. Jack was quickly recognized for his superior interpersonal skills and leadership abilities and earned 10 promotions, each requiring that he move his family to new locations. Jack became President of Hoover Canada in 1981 and later retired as Executive Vice President of North America in 1988 after a 34 year career. Jack's retirement from the Hoover Company was short-lived as he took over the management of Oleo Acres Farrier Supply company following the death of his parents who founded this leading provider of horseshoe and blacksmith supplies. This fourth-generation family owned and operated business has been serving the farrier industry for 50 years. Sadly, Jack was a widower two times. His first wife, Margie Schlitt Wabschall passed away at the age 30 in 1962 and was survived by their four children, Darrell, Christi, Dale and Jackie. Jack married Luetta (Lu) Mae Wilken and adopted her son Mark. Lu passed away at age 65 in 1998.
Jack is survived by his wife, Patricia (Patti) Wilcox Wabschall and his five children: son Darrell and his wife Claudia, daughter Christi and her husband Bob and their children Rob and Margie, son Mark and his son Michael, Dale and his wife Suzanne and their daughter Jennifer and daughter Jackie and her husband Bob and three children Nicholas, Christina and Benjamin and Patti’s four children: her son Mark, her son Steve and wife Kathy and their four daughters Elizabeth, Stephanie, Sarah and Allison and her daughter Suzy and her three children Tom, Andrew and Danielle and son Kevin.
Jack and Patti had a fun filled life that undoubtedly assisted in his longevity. Jack was loved by all. He exemplified a positive attitude and always saw the good in everyone he encountered. Jack was an excellent father, and despite the long distances he had a close-knit family of 9 children, 14 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. Jack and Patti lived a very active life in the Pebble Creek community and are blessed with many wonderful and caring friends. Jack loved playing golf with his “Bunker Buster” buddies, was a masterful card player with wife Patti and a bocce ball enthusiast.
A memorial service & celebration of the life of Jack will be held at St. John Vianney Catholic Church located at 539 E. La Pasada Blvd in Goodyear, AZ on Friday, May 24th at 2:00PM. A reception will be held thereafter at Palm Valley Golf Club located at 2211 N Litchfield Rd, Goodyear.
