Robert LaRue White of Goodyear, Arizona, formerly of Schaumburg, Illinois, passed into Eternal Rest early on Sunday April 15, 2018, at Hospice of The Valley after a brief illness. A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Tuesday May 1st at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church in Avondale, Arizona. Services were private.
Robert was born on January 8, 1936, in Chicago, IL and grew up there. He attended St. George High School and graduated as part of the Class of 1954. He attended St. Joseph College in Rensselaer IN. Robert served in the U.S. Army in Maryland and then returned to Chicago to pursue a career in telephone engineering first with KP in Arlington Heights, Illinois and then at Western Electric in Rolling Meadows, Illinois. Finally he retired from Lucent Technologies in Rolling Meadows. After enduring many cold, snowy Chicago winters, he and his wife, Jewel, moved to a new, warmer life in Goodyear, Arizona. He went from pursuing basketball and bowling in his spare time to his true passion in life, golf.
Robert is survived by his wife, Jewel, their daughter Michelle (Joel) Barr in Arlington Heights, Illinois, and his son Christopher (Julie) White in Norwalk, Iowa. He is also survived by his granddaughters: Reagan and Mollie Barr and Katie, Sr. Mary of the Visitation (Sarah), and Becky White.
He was preceded in death by his mother Thecla (Dziengel) Depew of Chicago, IL. He leaves behind family, many friends and wonderful memories. Robert was a warm and generous man who always the good in people. He was always willing to lend a hand to anyone in need.
Services were handled by Thompson Funeral Chapel of Goodyear, Arizona. Memorials and donations can be made in his name to the giver’s charity of choice or the local St. Vincent De Paul Society.
