Mrs. Nancie Jean Fulthorp of Avondale Arizona, died with her family near her side on November 7, 2025. She was born Nancy Jean Kyle in Seattle Washington on August 26, 1939, to Margaret Adams Wood of Hawick, Scottland and Edwin Demerest Kyle of Elgin, Oregon.
Nancie was the youngest of three children. Her brother Bill was 12 years older, and her sister Sheila was 9 years older. She grew up in the Ballard district of Seattle attending Loyal Heights Grade School, Ballard High School and Edison Technical School.
Being from a Scottish family, Nancie learned Scottish Highland dancing. Her sister Sheila became a very accomplished dancer and taught Nancie along with her other students. Nancie also traveled up to Canada many times to take lessons.
It was in High School that Nancie admired another girl so much she changed the spelling of her name from “Nancy” to “Nancie” and unofficially used that spelling until she formally changed it on her Birth Certificate in 2009.
Nancie and Dick started going together in High School. After graduation Nancie went to Dental School and became a Dental Assistant, married in 1960 then changed to a civil service job as a clerk-typist for the Navy in Seattle. She held that job until her husband finished a tour in the Air Force Reserve and graduated from the University of Washington.
Nancie was the proud mother of three sons: David, Brian and Keith and enjoyed her life raising the family, baking, canning, scrapbooking, toll painting, sewing, planning vacations, chaperoning Jr high school ski trips, and being involved in church where she coordinated women’s retreats, went to bible studies, helped in children’s-church and Sunday school as well as made vests and other crafts for Royal Rangers. Each of the boys eventually married and moved out of Washington State, so in 2013 Nancie and Dick relocated in Avondale Arizona to be closer to them and their families.
Throughout her life Nancie survived many major health struggles from brain surgery to joint replacements and heart issues, yet she persisted in creating a loving and fun home for her family and five grandchildren, despite the disabling health impacts she experienced. She passed along her love for baking and crafts to her grandchildren and even taught them the secret in her family's prized Scottish Shortbread.
A yearly trip to the Aloha Music Camp in Hawaii was the one event that Nancie looked forward to, where she met famous personalities, built a Ukulele and a Lap Steel Guitar. A broken Ancle there started a chain of health issues needing many Doctor visits, physical therapy and hospital stays until her death in November.
Nancie is survived by her husband Dick, Son Brian and Daughter in Law Debbie, Son Keith and Daughter in Law Carol, and her 5 grandchildren: Mercy, Samuel, Benjamin, Aleena and Brielle. She is preceded in death by her son David, brother Bill and sister Sheila.
A memorial celebration of life service will be held at Reveal Vineyard Church, 13015 W Greenway Rd, El Mirage AZ 85335 on December 12th. The service will begin at 2pm. Nancie’s final resting place will be the cemetery in the City of San Marcos California.
