Norman Lewis Odom of Goodyear AZ, died on December 7, 2023. Norman was born in Show Low, AZ December 4, 1949. Later his family, which included 8 siblings, moved to Cashion, AZ (now part of Avondale). In 1965 his father died leaving Norman with the task of helping his mom raise three younger brothers.
Norman graduated from Tolleson Union High School in 1968. His first son Jeffrey was born in 1969 followed by a daughter, Dawnda, in 1972. Several years later in 1978 his third child, Joshua, was born.
Norman worked for AT&T for 30 years as a manufacturing operator and later as a manager. Norman was a hard worker and good provider for his family.
In 2013, Norman met his wife Laura and they were married on May 15, 2021. They clicked immediately. If there is such a thing as love at first sight, this was it. They shared a love of Beatles music and country music (especially the classics). They also enjoyed travelling the state of Arizona. They both felt blessed to have lived in Arizona for their entire lives.
Norman was always an avid reader. He enjoyed reading just about anything he could get his hands on, but a few of his favorites were the Monkey Wrench Gang, by Edward Abbey, The Bob Lee Swagger series by Stephen Hunter, and the Jack Reacher series by Lee Childs.
Norman enjoyed watching racing. His favorite racing was NHRA drag racing and sprint car racing. He also followed NASCAR, but in recent years did not like their rule changes.
Norman loved to cook and bake. He loved to make others happy by cooking for them or teaching others how to. Cincinnati chili was always a favorite of family and friends, as well as Lemon Dream cake for dessert. The only drawback to his cooking was he didn’t know how to cook small meals.
Norman had a great sense of humor and often dealt with life’s issues using humor. He was selfless and caring, only wanting good things for those he loved.
Norman is survived by his devoted wife Laura, his children Jeffrey, Dawnda (Link), Joshua (Wendy) and Briana and his grandchildren Scott (Jessica), Amber (Antoine), Timothy, Drew, Brooke, Zayden, Georgie and Adrian and a great granddaughter Sophia and his sisters Jeannette (Doyle) and Marjorie and his brother Randy (Stacy). Norman is preceded in death by his parents, Mary and Lewis and siblings Allen, Joanne, Charles, Ronald, and Thomas.
A celebration of life will be held at Estrella Mountain Regional Park on January 6, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. Norman loved to cook and we will be honoring him by holding a potluck. All friends and family are welcome. Please bring a favorite dish to share. A ramada has been reserved so that we have room to put out lots of food.
