Pedro spent his childhood in Avondale, where he attended St. John Vianney Catholic School and Avondale Elementary School. He later continued his education at Cesar Chavez High School and Agua Fria High School.
From a young age, Pedro was filled with curiosity, always asking “Why?” as he sought to understand the world around him. He played T-ball and soccer at an early age and developed a deep love for music. While attending St. John Vianney, he sang in the choir and, at just 8 years old, progressed to the Phoenix Boys Choir.
Even when Pedro had very little, he was always sharing and giving of himself. He was forever chasing smiles, wanting his loved ones to be happy and to know how deeply he cared for them. He appreciated every person in his life and often reminded them how proud he was of their accomplishments. He encouraged others to do well, even while he was striving for great things himself. Pedro dreamed bigger than anyone, and with his smile, charm, and sincerity, he could easily convince you that you were the most amazing person.
After high school, Pedro sought to further his education in the art of culinary studies, learning both from his beloved Nana Sylvia and the Arizona Institute of Culinary. Among his many artistic talents, he also loved being a barber and tattoo artist for close friends and family. His love for music remained a cornerstone of his life—he loved dancing, celebrating, and embracing the freedom of expression that music gave him.
Pedro was happiest when surrounded by family and friends. He was known for his uplifting spirit, kind words, and generous heart. Always ready to help those in need, he lived his life with compassion and love. His devotion to family was evident—especially in the love he carried for his daughters, his grandparents, his parents, and his siblings. He loved and was deeply loved by all who knew him, even if only for a moment in time.
Pedro is survived by his mother, Maria Isabel Cruz (Krs); father, Carl May; brothers, Mathew D. Cruz (Christina), Carlos May and little brother, Curly Uriarte, sister, Alyssa May; and his beloved daughters, Norma Cruz and Violet Duhigg. He is further survived by several nieces, nephews, many aunts, uncles, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Lorenzo and Sylvia Cruz, and his paternal grandmother, Maria Betancourt.
While his absence on earth will leave a hole in many hearts, we are comforted in knowing that he is now resting and at peace. Pedro will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who loved him. His amazing smile, joyful spirit, and boundless love will live on in the hearts of those he touched. We hope you can join us in celebrating his life.
