Peggie Marie Skaggs

Born on October 10, 1946, at Fort Dix, New Jersey, to Richard and Kathryn Tankersley, Peggie spent part of her childhood in post-World War II occupied Japan while her father served in the United States Army. She shared a special bond with her twin sister, Pat, and treasured the memories they made growing up together, including the matching outfits lovingly sewn by their mother. Military life brought frequent moves before the family eventually settled in Arizona, where Peggie proudly spent most of her life.

In 1966, Peggie married Louis James Richards, and together they welcomed two children, Terry and Tammy. She then married Bobby in 2000, and their enduring love and companionship became an important and cherished part of the life they built together, also extending their family with Bobby's children Jim, Aimee, and Kristin.

Peggie built a long and successful career with First American Title, breaking glass ceilings through her determination, professionalism, and perseverance during the 1980s and 1990s, when women still faced significant barriers to advancement. That same determination showed up in her competitive spirit. She was an accomplished bowler in the 1970s and a formidable professional table shuffleboard player throughout the 1980s and 1990s. Away from the competition, she enjoyed reading, attending musicals, working her daily puzzles on her iPad, and spending time with Bobby and her beloved cats.

In retirement, Peggie found her calling in serving others. She devoted countless time and energy for over 20 years to many events with Special Olympics Arizona. Later, she brought the same dedication to volunteering at Banner Estrella Medical Center in Phoenix, checking patients in for procedures and surgery, working in the gift shop, and comforting newborns as a NICU "hugger".

Nothing brought Peggie greater joy than her family. She especially cherished being Grandma to Maxwell and Mason, always making herself available for the big milestones, the everyday moments, and everything in between. Christmas was her favorite time of year, and her famous cream cheese cookies became a beloved family tradition.

She will be remembered for her quick wit, unmistakable sarcasm, competitive spirit, fierce independence, generous heart, and just enough stubbornness to keep life interesting. Above all, she will be remembered for the love she gave so freely to her family and friends.

Peggie is now reunited with both her parents. She is survived by her devoted husband, Bobby Skaggs; son Terry (Kimberly) Richards; daughter, Tammy (Carlos) Machado; cherished grandsons, Maxwell and Mason Machado; beloved twin sister, Pat Staflin; and many extended family members and dear friends.

A Memorial Mass will be held at Saint John Vianney Church, 800 W Loma Linda Blvd, Goodyear, Arizona 85338, on August 20, 2026, at 10:00 am.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Thompson Funeral Chapel, 926 S. Litchfield Rd., Goodyear, Arizona 85338, on August 20, 2026, at 11:00 am.
