Phillip Avery McFadden was born on March 23, 1959, to the late Horace McFadden and Velma Lucas McFadden in Chicago, Illinois. Phillip built a life anchored in faith, integrity, and commitment. He was united in matrimony and was a devoted husband to his wife, Bonita, of 33 years. Phillip went home to be with the Lord on September 10, 2025, at age 66.
Raised in Chicago, Phillip graduated from Chicago Vocational High School in 1977. He earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Western Illinois University in 1981. He achieved his Doctor of Theology Degree from Arizona USA Christian University in 2021. Phillip lived his faith openly and generously as an Elder at the Carpenter’s House of Worship. He loved unconditionally!! “When God’s people are in need, be ready to help them.” (Romans 12:13 NIV). This wasn’t just a motto on paper; it was how Phillip lived his life. He cast a steady vision of excellence and service before self. His attitude towards life was simple: create opportunities, keep your word, make space at the table, and leave every place stronger than you found it.
Phillip pursued a dynamic career in construction engineering. A registered general contractor and 43-year construction veteran, he has contributed to projects nationwide. His professional path included impactful seasons with Gust K. Newberg, H. J. Russell & Company, and Turner Construction. Known for his engineering leadership and extensive knowledge in construction, Phillip took equal delight in building friendships as he did in constructing buildings.
Construction projects across the United States include: Airport expansions, Athletic Stadiums and Arenas, City Hall Complex, Convention Centers, Hampton Roads/Norfolk Underwater Vehicular Tunnel, Olympic Venues, Symphony Halls, and Veterans Administration Medical Centers, to name a few.
Phillip leaves to cherish his memories: daughter, Alece Marie McFadden, Chicago, IL; siblings Reginald McFadden (Regina) of Litchfield Park, AZ; Pamela Wallace of Sterling, VA; Shanta Nunn-Baro (Moussa) of Little Rock, AR; and Carla Eady (Frank) of Savannah, GA.
Phillip is part of a legacy family that loved him dearly on both his father’s and mother’s side. He was committed to keeping in touch with his family: Uncle Donald, Aunt Darlene, Aunt Mae, Aunt Valerie, and Aunt Ann (101 years old). Cousins Jackie, Ray, Vernell, Pat, Michael, Marc, Poncho, Annie, Virginia, Bobby, and Doug W.. He was so proud of his nieces and nephews: Ibrahima, Mikola (Kevin Sr.), Kevin II, Mia, Alex, Kevin III, Cameron, Monica, Earnest, Shia, William (Jenny), Colin, Jacquelyn, and Lance.
