Richard Morris Bridges, 76, died October 10, 2026. Born March 6, 1950, in Columbia, South Carolina, he was the son of Troy and Helen Bridges. He was raised in Knoxville, Tennessee, and graduated from Fulton High School in Knoxville. Richard was a longtime resident of Avondale, Arizona.
Richard served his country in the United States Navy as a Corpsman attached to the Marines, a role that reflected steady courage, deep commitment, and a willingness to place others first. He was medically retired from the U.S. Navy, and his service remains a lasting point of honor for those who knew and loved him.
Richard found joy in the experiences that brought people together. He loved traveling and cruising, followed Tennessee Vols football and the Philadelphia Eagles with loyal enthusiasm, and treasured time in the pool—content in the sun he so enjoyed. He looked forward each year to his Alaskan fishing trips, and he brought that same devotion to home through house projects and frequent trips to Home Depot. Richard also delighted in decorating for every holiday, filling each season with a sense of occasion and warmth. Above all, he loved his family, and he cherished the companionship of his cat, Goldie.
Richard is survived by his wife, Margaret Lerner Bridges ( in which they just celebrated their 53rd wedding anniversary) ; his daughter, Jennifer Hainley; his son-in-law, Jesse Hainley; his grandson, Blaise Hainley; his sister, Helen (Troine) Teffeteller; his brother, Carlon (Butch) Bridges (Roxanne),brother-in-law and sister-in-law Preston and Barbara Houseal, and brother-in-law Paul Basile, along with many nieces and nephews Richard's spirit will carry through.
He will be remembered with gratitude and respect, and with enduring love by all who had the privilege to share in his life.
