John Robert Arnold, 88, of Litchfield Park, AZ died December 3, 2015 in Surprise, AZ. John was born March 21, 1927 in Los Angeles, CA to Elzie and Velma Arnold. He graduated Wilson High School in Long Beach, CA and went on to volunteer in the Army Air Corp from 1945 –1946. He attended the University of Oregan and played in the Cotton Bowl in 1949.
He married Patricia Teters and they had sons John, Jr. and Kirk as well as daughter Staci. In 1974 he married his wife of 41 years, R. Darlene Comer.
John worked in sales most of his life. He was a Vice President of Sales for Allison/ Marathon Steel and later owned two steel companies. In his later years he was a realtor in Carefree, AZ. John chaired the committee to incorporate Cave Creek, AZ as a town in 1985. He built four houses with his wife Darlene: two in Cave Creek, AZ and two in Litchfield Park, AZ. He worked as the independent contractor for all four houses and designed the last three.
In 2006 John was diagnosed with non-Hodgkins Lymphoma and went through chemotherapy which left him with neuropathy in both legs and feet. He also suffered from COPD.
John is preceded in death by his parents, sisters Betty and Lee and his son Steven G. Comer. He is survived by his wife Darlene, three sons John Arnold, Jr., Kirk Arnold and Grant Comer, two daughters Staci Hujing and Myra Curtis, sixteen grandchildren and seventeen great-grandchildren.
A Memorial Service will be held 2:30 pm Thursday, December 17, 2015 at The Church at Litchfield Park, 300 N Old Litchfield Road, Litchfield Park, AZ. The family requests that donations be made in John’s name to the Agua Fria Food Bank.
