

Robert was born September 17th, 1951 in Greenville, North Carolina. He attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where he received a BA in Political Science, a Master’s Degree in public administration from West Virginia University, and teaching and principal’s certificates from Arizona State University. He previously worked in dispatch at the Chapel Hill Police Department and later as a county administrator in Upshur County, West Virginia, before becoming a town administrator in Biltmore Forest, North Carolina. His next position as the city manager of Litchfield Park, Arizona brought his family out west. Musselwhite worked as a flight instructor at Sawyer Aviation at Sky Harbor Airport in Phoenix, Arizona and also for Lufthansa Airlines. His final chapter was as a history teacher at Apollo High School in Glendale, AZ- the years he found the most fulfilling of his many careers.
Musselwhite’s hobbies included flying, riding his motorcycle, and gardening at his mountain home in western North Carolina. Musselwhite also ran for U.S. Congress on the democratic ticket in 2018 and 2020.
Musselwhite is survived by his wife of 53 years, Caroline Ramsey Musselwhite of Litchfield Park, AZ, his son Matt Musselwhite and granddaughter Madelyn Musselwhite of Medford, Oregon, his daughter Katie Musselwhite-Goldsmith and son-in-law Joseph Goldsmith, grand-children Ethan, Julia and Asher Goldsmith of New York City, NY, his sisters Melinda Woods and Sarah Stocks of Winterville, NC as well as countless beloved nieces and nephews.
