Timothy J. Hovancsek, 72, of Litchfield Park, Arizona, passed away on October 23, 2025. A native of Ohio, Tim built a life around two great loves: the game of golf and mentoring young people. He is remembered by family, friends, former students and colleagues as a devoted father, a passionate teacher of the game, and a steady presence in the golf community.
Tim was the Head Coach Emeritus of William Jessup University’s men’s golf program, where his leadership went far beyond scorecards. His influence touched players who went on to careers both in and outside of golf, and many kept in touch over the years to share milestones and to credit Tim for his steady guidance.
In 1996 Tim earned the distinction of becoming the 185th Master Professional in the PGA of America — an honor that recognizes exceptional achievement, education and service among golf professionals. That milestone reflected decades of dedication: teaching players of all ages, supporting local and regional golf programs, and contributing to the broader PGA community.
Tim was a proud father to his daughter, Trinity of Arizona. He is also survived by his brother, James (Erin) Hovancsek of Solon, Ohio. He was preceded in death by his brother, Thomas Hovancsek. His family, students and friends will remember him for his gentle humor, dependable presence and the many small lessons he shared.
Those who wish to honor Tim’s memory may consider reaching out to William Jessup University’s athletics department or the PGA chapter in their area to learn about scholarship or youth-program opportunities that reflect the mentoring spirit he embodied.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Thompson Funeral Chapel, located at 926 South Litchfield Road, Goodyear, Arizona. The service is scheduled for November 15, 2025, starting at 1:00 pm.
