Stuart Wilkening of Litchfield Park, Arizona passed away March 20, 2023 at the age of 76. He was born February 16, 1947 in Watseka, Illinois to Elmer and Lydia Wilkening. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Mary Wilkening, and his children Jon Wilkening, Katie Wilkening Pabst, and Tom Wilkening. He is also survived by eleven grandchildren: Rachel, Madeline, Charlie, Andrew, Elise, Joseph, Jack, Cosima, Magda, James, and Ellie.
Stuart grew up on a farm near Cissna Park, IL. He graduated from the University of Illinois with a BS in engineering in 1969. He married Mary E. Wilkening on March 21, 1970. He worked for Bechtel Corporation for 22 years on projects in Los Angeles, Calvert Cliffs, MD, Mexico City, Mexico, and Palo Verde, AZ. He moved to Litchfield Park in 1980. He left Bechtel to work for Salt River Project in 1990 and was Director of Power Accounting Services until he retired in 2013. Stuart volunteered with the West Valley Arts Council as president for one term and treasurer for nine years. He was the president of the New Life Center for one term. At the Church at Litchfield Park, he served as president of the Board of Directors for one term and chairman of the Endowment Committee for many years. Stuart enjoyed remodeling houses, golfing, hiking, playing tennis, playing bridge, and reading.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 2pm, Saturday, April 29, 2023 at the Church at Litchfield Park. Burial will take place at the Garden of Memories at the Church of Litchfield Park.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations be made to The Litchfield Park Historical Society.
