

William (Bill) Alves was born in Providence, RI, on April 28, 1937. One of nine children, he was the second youngest. He served thirty years in the United States Air Force and was stationed in Mississippi, Germany, England, Illinois, Vietnam, and New Jersey. He retired as a Chief Master Sergeant while stationed in England and worked for a few years as a civilian for the United States Government at Royal Air Force Bases Upper Heyford and Fairford. Together, with his wife Susan he moved from Buckinghamshire, England to Litchfield Park, Arizona where they have resided for over thirty years.
Bill is survived by Susan, his wife of over sixty years, his two children; Rebecca Saltiel (David) of Virginia and Charles Alves (Eileen) of Arizona; three grandchildren, Oliver Saltiel, William Alves, and Victoria Alves. He also leaves behind his younger sister, Edna Tipple of Rhode Island and several nieces and nephews in Rhode Island and Florida.
Bill was a much-loved individual, known by friends, family, and neighbors for his fascinating stories and generous nature. He will be deeply missed by his family and all who knew him.
No funeral service will be take place in Arizona, but his ashes will be interred at Arlington National Cemetery in Virginia at a later date.
