Alford Denis Benjamin

Alford Denis Benjamin, age 79 of Orlando, Florida, passed away on November 18, 2025. He was born on the beautiful island of Dominica, West Indies on September 21, 1946. He was married to Dr. Wynant Watty-Benjamin for 37 years.

Alford, nicknamed “Benji” or “Alfred”, migrated to the U.S. Virgin Islands in 1968, and worked for the Garnet Corporation on St. Croix. He then moved on to Amerada Hess Corporation to work as a refinery operator for 35 years until he retired.

He was a devout member of the St. Croix Church of Christ, and had a deep passion for sharing his faith. Wherever he went, his bible went along. He always took tracks with him to share with people — to the supermarket, the doctor’s office, restaurants — even while he was ill. Religious discussions were one of his favorite engagements.

Benji found great joy in gardening and raising livestock (particularly chickens and rabbits); and he made a mean soup or stew with the livestock he raised. He was a very quiet and patient individual, but not a push over. He was dedicated to helping others, caring for his family, and leading a life centered in God. He enjoyed celebrating holidays like Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year’s by having the brethren at the house for a meal, singing and prayer.

He was a self-proclaimed jack-of-all-trades and master of a few. Benji believed in doing things himself. He was a builder, mechanic, farmer, and plumber among other things. It didn’t matter how long it took him to get the job done. He was never in a hurry. He lived a life of simplicity, hard work and joy.

Benji is survived by his wife; his children: Rochelle, Alford Jr. and Mandy; granddaughters: Amariah and KaiLeigh; maternal sister: Francisca Royer Laville; and other siblings, relatives and friends.

A visitation will be held at Woodlawn Memorial Park & Funeral Home, located at 400 Woodlawn Cemetery Road, Gotha, FL 34734, on November 30, 2025, from 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm.

The funeral service will follow at the same venue from 3:00 pm to 4:00 pm on the same day.
