I was thinking of you this week. I think of you and Kathy often. I enjoy sharing stories about you both. Recalling holidays and special occasions spent with your family brings me joy. You'll always be remembered fondly and often. I am grateful for all the memories I get to hold close and remember you both by.

To one of the closest friends I have ever known and knew for over 30 years. We used to take trips to Sweet Tomatoes every Thursday and talk about all the world’s problems. We only had one rule when talking about current events and that was not to talk about politics. After eating, we would take a trip to the Bass Tracker store to shop for bargains. 

We never did get bored doing these activities. We went to many car shows, boats shows, and took in a few movies. We would plan things to do for a weekend such as going camping at Fort Wilderness. We would talk about all the places we would go camping. No matter what places we discussed, we would always end up at Fort Wilderness. It didn’t take much for us to enjoy time at Fort Wilderness. The company was always enough. There was always plenty of conversation, laughter, and good times. 

Al was a happy, gentle, caring, and friendly individual. He was a loyal friend. Al’s real enjoyment was being with family as well as friends and spending time with them at Walt DisneyWorld. He will be greatly missed, but not forgotten.

For a girl growing up in Florida with no nearby family it has always been such a comfort to have Al include us as part of his own. His influence helped shape my life. As I grew older I came to respect him even more and will never forget how proud he was of me when I worked really hard to get a job in aviation or when I started visiting New York often and he would share stories with me when he called my dad to catch up. I remember the first time I got to tag along on one of his and my dad’s weekly hangouts and I felt so cool to finally be one of the “adults” and hear all the cool stories that I missed out on as a kid.

I’m so very thankful that in the last few years of his life I got to know Mr. Weising as not only my elder but also as a friend. I treasured the times I got to visit him at the hospital. Once we were hospitalized at the same time and I fondly remember sneaking out of my room to visit him whenever I could. He would talk to me about fun outings with his friends in New York, work days at Disney with my Dad, experiences from the fire department and, most of all, Kathy. There wasn’t a single story that wasn’t about Kathy and his family. Al was such a loving man who cared so much for those around him and that is what I will always remember most about my time spent with him. I have spent so many important, memorable moments with this man that I am thankful to know his memory will never die out in me. The special moments shared could never be forgotten.

My name is Tammy Walker and I have grown up alongside the Weising family with my sister, Amy. We were blessed to have the Weising family enter our lives at a very early age when my father and Al became best friends working at Disney. My entire childhood consisted of visiting the parks on the weekends and going to transportation dispatch to ask what stops my dad and Al would be stopping at so my mom, my sister and I could surprise them with a visit. Al was always treated like a relative in our family and we were always excited to see him.

Soon after we were lucky enough to spend time with Al and Kathy outside of Disney and eventually were embraced by the entire Weising clan and I couldn’t imagine my life without them. Al and Kathy were like grandparents to me and their family quickly became my own. His grandchildren especially became some of my closest friends that I had some of my most hilarious childhood memories with. Sometimes I think seeing all us kids laugh and have fun might have been some of his favorite memories of our families together since no matter how old we got or how long we spent apart we were always just as close the next time we got together. We were at all of each others birthday parties, celebrated the Fourth of July every year at Fort Wilderness, had a blast at River Country at Disney company parties, indulged in the absolute best homemade Thanksgiving dinners, enjoyed some cozy Christmases, river cruises, Father’s Day at the Wax Museum, weekly outings at Sweet Tomatoes, many trips to Bass Pro Shop and so much more. My life has deeply been shaped by having the Weisings in my life and I owe that to Al for introducing us to his lovely family and making us always feel loved and welcomed. He has always been the glue that held us together. He never hesitated to include us whenever there was an opportunity to get everyone together.

“It was a dark and stormy night, and the skipper was there, and his men said come...tell us a story, and he began...” The memorable moments with him are too many to count. This man taught me everything he knew about taking care of the swimming pool, jump starting a car battery, driving the golf cart and the gator, trimming the branches off each other’s driveways, and what movies/tv shows to watch next.
Papa and I told each other the funniest jokes and stories when I was a kid. We’d read the newspaper funnies and watch all the classic cartoons together. 
The best times I’ve had with him, ironically enough, were always at Disney. We would pick a day to go to one of the theme parks. We’d walk around, get us a coffee, and people watch. We’d take in the whole environment and talk about whatever was going on in our lives or stories about past and present stuff that happened to us. 
There was one time I was watching him while Dad was running errands, we were watching Bonanza I think. We were having a conversation about something that led to him saying something like, “It’s nice to laugh every once in a while because there’s nothing wrong with going out on a good laugh.” As he was slowly deteriorating into what he was now, I lost my theme park companion, but worse, I lost my father...And then the day he was carried out to the ambulance was the last I ever saw of him...
I was watching an animated movie last night, Kubo and the Two Strings. There’s this one scene I will never forget where they were talking about why Golden Herring sing. They said that it’s believed that they carry the souls of the departed, carrying them to wherever they may need to go. “Many say the song is about what happens when we die, we don’t just disappear. Like paper, we shift, we transform. So we may continue our story in another place. The ending of one story is the beginning of another.” His stories and memories will live on within all of us. I love you, Papa!

Papa was always a solid presence in my life. I never remember a vacation, a milestone, or even a regular day where he wasn’t in it. He introduced me to the swimming pool, let me snuggle up next to him on the living room couch for a pre-work nap, showed me the basics of gardening and woodworking, and showed me a prime example of what a good person is suppose to be: kind, patient, gentle, and loving.

I cherish memories of our RV trips, whether it was to Fort Wilderness or just a few miles to have lunch at Wendy’s for chili and saltines. Midnight snacks late Saturday nights for sleepovers; sometimes to share a peach or have a bowl of moose tracks ice cream.

I am grateful for such a strong male presence in my life. I don’t know who I would be without him. I love this man.

I can only smile when I think of Al, because he exuded happiness and his smile...infectious.  
My greeting to him was always, “Hello Mr. Weising”, and he would respond, “Hello Mrs. Weising”.   I think he liked me!  I was a daughter, I hope a friend and of course the Mother of his grandchildren.  
Most of my memories of Al are surrounded by Disney of course.  He was generous with his park passes and loved offering  friends and family access to Disney World.  He BBQ’ed many hamburgers and hotdogs on our mini vacations to Fort Wilderness, and helped me and the kids decorate the golf cart for 4th of July parades. He didn't mind crowds and would often do what I call, “the Disney Waddle”, slowly walking through the Studios after watching the Osbourne lights during Christmas.
He was literally footsteps away from our home and was the “Mister Fix It” handy man around our house.  Al loved tinkering and working outdoors,  but I don’t think he ever imagined that he would be the family zoo keeper too;  making sure our family menagerie was watered and fed.  He was quick to share nature with the grandkids, by having them patiently watch chicks being hatched or witness a snake devouring a rat.  
I am forever grateful to Al for being a positive male role model to my children.  He taught them well and scolded them when needed.  I miss having a beer with him around the pool, and listening to him tease the kids  “...it was a dark and stormy night!”!  
You will be missed...Mr. Weising.
