Alvin Davis, age 84, resident of Clermont, Florida, passed away on December 3, 2012 after a brief battle with pancreatic cancer. He was born in Davisville, Escambia County, Florida on September 12, 1928. He was the son of Walter and Irvie Davis and grew up on their family farm along with his five beloved sisters and one brother. Alvin attended the University of Florida where he received both Bachelor and Master degrees in agriculture. He was married to Mary Carolyn Curtis on November 3, 1950. Alvin served as a Sergeant in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. His professional career was spent teaching in schools in Santa Rosa and Orange Counties. He was active in the Korean War Veterans Association of Lake County until his death and had also volunteered to teach English to new immigrants. He was proud of his record as a blood donor. He especially loved the people and beauty of Ashe County, North Carolina, the Blue Ridge Mountains, and the ancient New River there. He adored his grandchildren and will always be remembered for his kind, gentle, and generous manner. Alvin is survived by his wife, Mary Carolyn Davis; one sister, Marie Davis; four children, Carol Thompson (Jeff), Barbara Beavers (Richard), Beth Longshore (Jerry), Jim Davis (Karin), and daughter-in-law, Margaret Davis. He was pre-deceased by his son, Alvin Curtis Davis. He had nine grandchildren and one great grandchild; Douglas Davis, Lisa Davis, Dr. Joseph Beavers, Krista Tempkins, Jamie Davis, Jessica Davis, John Longshore, Julia Longshore and Elizabeth Longshore, and Brie Davis.
