She was born February 11, 1947 in Baltimore, MD to Doris R. Dorsey and the late Samuel W. Smith. At age 13 she moved with her mother to Philadelphia, PA where she spent the majority of her life. She attended Shoemaker Junior High and went on to graduate from Overbrook High School in 1965. She attended Cheney State College and transferred to Temple University. After receiving her bachelor’s degree from Temple in 1978, Angela went on to complete medical school at Temple and earn her doctor of medicine degree in 1983. As an anesthesiologist, Angela cared for and treated thousands of patients all over the city of Philadelphia.
In her free time she impacted the lives of hundreds of young people at Bartram High School, and she even played Girl Scout cookie den mother for her daughter’s Girl Scout troop. She volunteered her time regularly at Our Mother of Sorrows, a catholic church in Philadelphia known for its consummate work with the homeless, and spent several Thanksgivings and Christmases with her daughters feeding the homeless and donating clothing. Angela was an extremely generous woman, not only with her time but with her money as well. She made numerous donations to various charities big and small.
Anyone who knew Angela knows that she was a woman of deep faith. She spent many years as a parishioner of Arch Street United Methodist Church, and kept in close contact with her former pastor and fellow parishioners even after she moved to Gotha, FL in 2010. While in Central Florida, she attended St. Luke’s United Methodist Church. And they received her as one of their own. Angela lived out her faith in service to the Lord in many ways including volunteering at the Orange County Jail, helping with literacy training, a cause that was very near and dear to her. Education was paramount to her, and Angela believed without an education one is truly lost, and that knowledge is power.
She is survived by her two daughters, Wendy Scott-Penson and Rashida Bryant, by her Goddaughter Loretta Williams, by her mother, Doris Scott, her sister, Tamara Dorsey-Brody and her brother Reginald Scott.
