Anthony (Tony) Alden Flowers, nearly 83 years old passed away peacefully on January 11, 2022 in Winter Garden, Florida due to complications associated with his long-term struggle with dementia. Tony was born to the late Joseph Ishmael and Lois Henrietta Katherine (Haag) Flowers on February 23, 1939 in Sayre, Oklahoma. He was raised with his two brothers Joe Dale Flowers, and David Hulon Flowers on his family’s farm in Sweetwater, OK until he entered his college studies at Oklahoma State University. At Oklahoma State, Tony earned a BS in electrical engineering and met his future wife, Mary Carleene McDaniel. Tony and Carleene married on March 2, 1963 and had two children, Ginger and Robert. Tony’s professional career started at McDonnell Aircraft near Los Angeles, California in 1962 where he worked on the electrical systems for military and commercial jets, notably the DC 10 airliner. A few years later, he joined the Martin Marietta Corporation in Denver, Colorado to support NASA’s SkyLab project. With Martin Marietta, he later moved to Huntsville, Alabama and then in 1975, he settled in Orlando, Florida. Most of his work at Martin Marietta supported US national security programs. Tony was also an early adopter of computer technology and earned a MS in Computer Science from Florida Tech in 1993.
Tony was a life-long, avid reader and particularly enjoyed science fiction. Tony grew up playing Blue Grass music with his family and neighbors, and as an adult played in several Blue Grass groups. He loved tinkering with electronic and mechanical gadgets of all kinds. This love of tinkering later fed into his love for computers. After he married Carleene, he became an active member of the Methodist Church where they enjoyed singing in the choir. Tony loved to travel with his wife and enjoyed fine cuisine. In retirement, Tony and Carleene took cruises all over the world where they enjoyed many adventures together.
He is survived by his wife Carleene and daughter Ginger and her husband Emmanuel; his brother, Joe Dale and his wife Esther and their son Mike and his wife Angie and their children Tyler and Sydney.
In addition to his parents, Tony was preceded in death by his son, Robert; his youngest brother David; and his niece Melissa.
