Ashley and I enjoyed playing outfield in kickball during PE. He was good at making me and others laugh. He always made me feel welcomed. 

I will miss you Ashley and remember you forever.

Its so sad when I heard of Ashley's passing. I never knew him since it was the 3rd week of school but i did see him in the morning before school started. What broke me is how i found out why i didn't see him in the Morning anymore. While we never spoke. My dad Jose mateo would tell me how he was a very socially kid, goofy, smart, make everyone feel chill, and a good personality to be around. My dad knows jim more than i do and he described ash(nickname) as a person he would mentor and be really close with him for emotional support or just talk about the future. It breaks my heart that i couldn't develop any relationship with him because my dad told me how when he enters highschool he would want to meet me, but we never did because i didn't know that the kid i saw in the morning was Ashley, a new addition to my friend group. I know he is in heaven eating whatever without getting sick, doing things he loves and playing video games. He will he happy when he sees how we made his life and his last days special. May he rest in peace 🕊️.

Ashley was a student that I loved having in my class in 7th grade. When he was in 8th grade and no longer my student, he’d still say hello in the hallways and at times tell me about his adventures in the outdoors. My thoughts are with everyone who knew and loved Ashley.

Dear Ashley,
Thank you so much for the impact and inspiration you’ve made on all of our lives. From the countless crazy memories, the fishing advice and stories, and just how much of an amazing person you were. Whenever anyone was having a bad day, it’s like you just knew and instantly made it better for us. I love how down to earth, joyful, exciting, and radiant you were. There was never a time you weren’t smiling, and your smile was one that would light up the entire room. Some of my favorite memories with you were when you were trying to flip a pencil off of the tables during Ms Holihan’s class in 6th grade, and somehow it flew so high that it got stuck in the ceiling. I also remember when you would just walk into school with all of your fishing gear and leave it in Mr Bigger’s room, and how everyone thought it was hilarious. I always found it so funny when you would wear that one brown winter jacket in the middle of summer to school. I’m gonna miss seeing you chase people down the hallways during transition and hear the teachers scold you for it. One thing we all admired about you was your talent and how much you loved fishing and being in nature. If I were to ask everyone what one of the stories you told them about fishing was, everyone would give me a different answer. Your drive for life and the things you loved was just so beautiful to me, how you were always in the moment and never embarrassed, nobody can live up to the person you were. I can go on and on about you, and how grateful I am to have known you. Thank you so much for being a friend to me Ashley, the memory of you will be one I’ll cherish for the rest of my life. We miss you so much, rest easy 🤍

I remember when we would be in PASS together and you would always be talking to Ms Abramowitz and she would always yell at us. It seems like just yesterday we would be in Mr Deas Office together talking to him to skip class. Rest in Peace Ashley.

How fortunate I am to have had Ashley cross my path.  He was an entrepreneur, a leader, a lobsterman (our first conversation was about the medallion  - that I recognized as a lobster gauge – he wore around his neck)  a fisherman, an adventurer, he was great at math (but did not love it), a kind human, took care of others, a boat captain, a diver, an explorer, creative, an advocate, passionate about the sea……Ashley prayers for you and your family….. calm seas, fair winds and tight lines.  – Capt. One of the funniest memories I have of you is when you brought your fishing pole to school all the time, no matter what anyone said you always brought it and I thought it was funny but cool. You were so passionate about fishing and this led to many conversations I hope you know every time I go fishing now I'll think about you.

Dear Ashley, I always thought you were such a bright and lively person who was easy to talk to. You always did what you loved no matter what anyone said. I cant even remember a time where you didn't have a cool story to tell. You constantly lived life to the fullest and had the greatest advice, you were so caring and you always looked out for others and I hope you know how much we all appreciated that. I'm so upset that I never got to tell you that my dad got a gator because I remember talking to you about it and I was so excited to talk to you about it because you always loved talking about things like that. I loved how passionate you were about fishing and doing anything outside. Ash you are  one of a few friends I met when I moved here to Florida. I didn’t know anyone. I remember meeting you at the pier at  the end of the road in our neighborhood . You caught a blacktip shark and I helped you with it. We talk about fishing and about how we loved the beach. We watched many of  Sunsets together. . You would always stop by my house when you came here to say hello and to see if I wanted to go riding and hang out.  Thank you  for your friendship and kindness Ash. Im sure gonna miss you bro

Ashley was my school son. We spent many afternoons together in my classroom tutoring and chatting about our lives. He loved to bug my daughter Lexi like she was his little sister, he drove her bits with all the horsing around!

I have spent the day with the countless of students that you impacted. Behind the many tears we have all cried, came even more stories of how kind you were and how you befriended everyone. All your adventures were retold and eventually we were able to come together and laugh at some of the craziest things you’ve said. Ashley was so nice to everyone in school. Even though he wasn't in any of my classes, he was always friendly and would talk to me in the hallways. At school, someone started a huge banner for him, and so many kids signed it and left messages. Everyone is sad and misses him. We hope you fly high Ashley.
