

BARBARA ELIZABETH (CARLTON) CHASTEEN, 54, died in her sleep early Friday morning, November 11, 2011. She had been a cancer survivor for two years. Barbara leaves behind her husband of 32 years, Joseph, her friend and mother-in-law Mae Chasteen and three sisters, Mary (Jim) Bowers of Delray Beach, Ann Carlton of Orlando and Nancy (Dexter) Glenn of Tampa. Barbara was born June 24, 1957 in Washington, D.C. and moved to Orlando in the College Park area in time to graduate from Robert E. Lee Junior High and Edgewater High School. Barbara worked for Orange County government for over 30 years. She worked for every County Administrator and most recently was in charge of Agenda Development. Barbara is predeceased by her parents, Robert and Gwendolyn Carlton. Barbara loved to laugh, listen to music and enjoyed animals, flowers and people of all ages. Barbara was a beautiful, compassionate and giving person who was loved by many and leaves a loving legacy to all who were touched by her friendship and love. A Memorial Service will be held at 3 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 23, 2011 at St. John Lutheran Church, 1600 S. Orlando Ave., Winter Park. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Barbara’s memory to M.D. Anderson Cancer Center, 1400 S. Orange Ave, Orlando, FL 32806.
