Barbara “Bobby” Ellis Lewis, 96, of Winter Garden, Florida, passed away February 5th, 2015. She was born in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, an only child to the late Samuel & Helen Ellis on June 19th, 1918; and, blessed so many along the way with her gregarious spirit. She was “little, but loud,” says her adoring son, Sam!
Barbara worked as a Clerk of the Court, and even in her personal relationships, had an authority that her loved ones characterized as positive. If they proved her wrong once in a while, she would cleverly respond, “Let’s think about that…” And, they would come to an agreeable conclusion.
Even though Ms. Lewis lost both her parents at a fairly young age, and her beloved husband, James, in 1972; she adapted with strength. She delighted in playing the organ, especially, “When the Saints Go Marching In!” She loved to travel on cruises and spend her summers in Las Vegas with her best friend, “Sweet Pea”. She might be found deer hunting, and even received a 357 Magnum as a gift one year – it was bigger than she was!
A caretaker of her whole family, and then some, Bobby bought a yellow and white Chrysler Cordoba one year, with a most valuable feature: a trailer hitch. Regularly, you could find her hitching it up to visit her son, James, in Louisiana, or scooping up all the grandkids for a trip to Disney! In the in-between times, she enjoyed playing golf with her Aunt Mame and her fierce competition, cousin Florence. Bobby once scored a hole-in-one!
As she needed more care this past year, Barbara became deeply close to her caregivers, Linda & Brenda. The family names them nothing short of angels~
Bobby leaves a legacy that continues to bless so many…
She is survived by her son, Samuel E. Lewis; grandchildren, Anthony, Alexandra & Robin; great-grandchildren, Jacquie, Ian & Aubrey; and, great-great-granddaughter, Mary Alyssa.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Woodlawn Memorial Park & Funeral Home in Gotha, Florida.
A Visitation will be open to friends & family Monday, February 9th from 1-3pm, with a Graveside Service to begin at 3:00 & a reception to follow in the Fellowship Hall of Starke Lake Baptist Church at 611 West Avenue, Ocoee, FL 34761.
