He should have a good view of the Gators up there… but, we miss him terribly.
Benny was born on June 19, 1936 in Fort Myers, Florida to the late Arnold & Mary (Moulton) Meredith.
By trade, he worked as a Line Maintainer with Continental Can Company.
But, before that, he scooped up his high school sweetheart, Carolyn, and they built a family together, which was his heartbeat. Benny came from a large family himself, born the third of six children. He and Carolyn raised four of their own, and then the grandchildren started arriving, which took their hearts to a whole new level.
Benny always had a smile on his face. He was voted “Best Looking” in his class in school, yes, but even more impressive were his positive spirit, his easy laugh, and the little ditties he would sing to his grandbabies.
Back in the day, Benny could shoot some mean pool, played cards, and won pretty often at shuffle board. Lately, Benny could be found working hard in his garden, taking a break on the tree swing, and finishing up with some Gunsmoke or an old Western. This schedule would of course be broken for his Gators, Buccs, or Braves games.
Benny’s faith grew quite a bit in the latter part of his life, and he cherished his church community as they served and worshipped the Lord together. Many folks feel his loss in their hearts today… and, they all look forward to being together again one day.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his dear wife of 59 years Carolyn Arflin Meredith; and, brother Collis Meredith, sister Janice Meredith Burke, and brother Jerry Meredith.
Benny is survived by, his children, Pamala Moorman (Buddy), Nancy Jernigan (Mike), Dennis Meredith (Maureen), and Kelly Meredith (Carrie); 12 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; sister Dorothy Birdyshaw (Pete), brother Ronnie Meredith (Barbara), and sister-in-law Wilma Arflin Chestney; and several loving nieces and nephews.
Please join us on Sunday, February 12, 2023 at Woodlawn Funeral Home in Gotha, Florida for a Visitation at 2pm and Benny’s Celebration of Life at 3pm. He will be interred at Winter Garden Cemetery the following day, February 13, 2023 at 4pm.
