Betty Arlene Liddick White was born in small town Manheim, Pennsylvania on December 29, 1930. She attended Manheim High school where she was involved in hockey and the band. She graduated high school, and met her husband, Walter, there. They were married in 1950 and had five children. Both Betty and Walter were highly active in their church and considered their church friends family. There was always a missionary family or church member having lunch at the house on Sunday. She loved to cook for other people. She considered it her mission to feed everyone, and she was good at it; especially expert in an endless variety of Jell-O, and of course, her famous Chex Mix casserole!!
She loved bowling, and she excelled at it. There she met close friends, also.
She loved going to garage sales and thrift shops. In fact, she loved the thrift shop so much that for years she donated her time folding fitted sheets (because no one else could do it) in the church community thrift shop in Apopka.
Because of Walter’s job in the construction industry, they moved every few years, around the country from Pennsylvania to Connecticut to South Carolina and finally ending up in the Windermere area of Florida where she retired from her favorite job; the Orange County School System. She made many close friends within the school system. She loved the “Lunch Bunch” and the “Food Group”. She treasured her friendships, and the testament to that was evident in some of her last visitors to her home when she was ill.
She was preceded in death by her husband Walter, three of her five children, Christine Bender, Timothy White, and Lois Akers. She is survived by one daughter, Denise Ashcraft, and one son, Walter Craig White. She leaves behind 11 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren.
Visitation/memorial service will be held on May 16th from 1-3 pm at Woodlawn Memorial Funeral Home in Gotha, Florida.
