Cora Lee Sugars, 81, returned to her heavenly home on July 14, 2019, after a long courageous battle with cancer. Cora was born to the late Marshall and Arrie Wellon on December 22, 1937, in Pittsview, AL. Cora left Alabama in 1958 and went to live in Chicago with her sister, Nellie Thomas, and then moved back to Alabama in 1961. Cora then left Alabama again in 1968 to move to Florida where she met Samuel Sugars (deceased) whom she married on May 17, 1971. When asked what would you like people to remember you by? She replied that she is always thinking about her family from her sisters and brothers all the way down to nieces and nephews.
Cora Sugars was immersed in the Christian community that would be her lifelong support from an early age. She was a faithful member of Grace Bible Church which whom she loved dearly.
Cora was the seventh child out of eleven children. Listed from oldest to youngest, Nellie Thomas (deceased), Otis Wellon (Sanford, FL), Taylor Wellon (deceased), Richard Wellon (Columbus, GA), Sallie Dawkins (deceased), Katherine Wellon (deceased), Thommy Wellon (deceased), Julia Wellon (deceased), Inell Upshaw (Orlando, FL) and Robert Wellon (deceased). Cora is survived by her two children, Dwaine Sugars (South Paris, ME), Nicole Sugars (deceased), and Darlene Jeanmary (Orlando, FL), and her six grandchildren: Deandria Sugars (Pensacola, FL), Tianna Sugars (South Paris, ME), Cayla Sugars (South Paris, ME), Viktoria Sugars (South Paris, ME), Jaylene Smalls (Orlando, FL) and Dayana Smalls (Orlando, FL) and two great-grandchildren, Jiraiya Thomas and Amara Thomas.
Cora Sugars retired from Orlando Utilities Commission where she was a customer service representative where she excelled and gained many awards for service.
Cora Sugars was a kind and loving Christian who even though was about business and could be very strict, she did so with love.
Cora Sugars' final resting place will be at Woodlawn Memorial at 4:30 pm on Friday, July 19th, with the repass being held at Mt. Siani Missionary Baptist Church. Pastor Gene Pritchard will officiate the service. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, please make a donation to MD Anderson Cancer Center.
