Cynthia Joyce Hurley, age 67, passed away on Sunday, June 7, 2026 at the Cornerstone Hospice House in Orlando after a lengthy, brave and graceful battle with cancer. She was born in Havre de Grace, Maryland to Josie Dare Holbrook (Hurley) Glass and Bud Jones Hurley. Cindy lived in Maryland until 1966 when the family relocated to Homestead, Florida. She moved to Gainesville and then on to Orlando where she began a career with the Walt Disney Company. She held several positions, but her career was primarily in Human Resources Cast Activities, where she thrived. There she was responsible for the management of programs and for the creation and oversight of service recognition events which created lasting magic memories for thousands of cast members. Cindy’s career with Disney spanned almost 40 years before her retirement in April, 2020. Music was always central to Cindy‘s life and she was known for her stunning lyric soprano voice. She shared artistic talents throughout her school years in Homestead where she was active in drama, dance and chorus, as well as participating in youth groups and choirs at Redland Community and Silver Palm United Methodist Churches. As an adult she sang with the University United Methodist Church Maranatha choir in Gainesville and with choirs at St. Luke’s United Methodist Church in Windermere. People who knew Cindy recognized her hospitality, her love for animals, and her quick and warm wit. She created a second chosen family of trusted friends and surrounded them with kindness and support. The beach at Manasota Key became her special place. Cindy was predeceased by her parents, her brother Gary, and by several dear and cherished friends as well as by special pets, especially Snoopy and her forever pup Riley. She is survived by aunts Barbara Joan Edwards and Dolores Cullum, uncle Douglas Holbrook and by many cousins. She is also survived by loving friends who will feel her absence every day. She has requested no formal funeral or memorial but invites people to gather in memory and laughter to tell stories and perhaps toast to good times. Interment will be at Woodlawn Funeral Home and Memorial Park in Gotha. It is suggested that any memorials be in the form of donation to the Lap of Love Angel Fund at www.lapoflove.com/angel-fund.
