Dineshwar Dayal Mathur, Ph.D. was born in 1939 in Amritsar, Punjab, India. He was the fourth child born to Bishambar Dayal and Chandrani Mathur. He was educated at Khalsa College in Amritsar and Punjab Agricultural University. After working in the hill stations of North India, a brief jaunt in London, England, and time in Guelph, Ontario, he emigrated to the United States to complete his Ph.D. at the University of Georgia.
He married Santosh Sethi in 1979 in California and the couple moved to Orlando, Florida. They raised two sons, Amit Kumar Mathur and Anish Kumar Mathur, in Orlando. After completing his career in horticulture, he was an executive in child care for 25 years. He was a jack of many trades - self-taught handyman, was an avid gardener, and he enjoyed the serenity of nature. He loved to drive. He relished his time with family and friends. He was fond of food and fun, and appreciated the company of children and pets. He had numerous one-liners that left his children and friends laughing. While he was a man of few words, he loved his family, friends, and community.
After retirement, Dr. Mathur enjoyed the best that life had to offer. He relished seeing his sons get married and establishing themselves professionally in medicine and law. He loved to travel. His passport had too many stamps to count, touching six continents. He was blessed with four grandsons, Ashwin (9), Sanjay (7), Avi (2), and Kiran (1), who he was able to love, nurture, and enjoy.
He is survived by his wife Santosh, his sons Amit and Anish, daughters-in-law Soniya and Emily, and his four grandsons.
