

Doris was born on January 28, 1933 in Lares, Puerto Rico to Dolores (Lola) Rivera Santiago and Jose Acevedo, one of 8 siblings. As a teenager, she moved to Greenwich Village in New York City. She married Alberto Roman in 1953 and while they divorced in 1961 they had three wonderful children whom Doris loved dearly: Sandra, Albert, and Catherine Roman.
Doris was a hairdresser and as a single mother, she owned and operated two salons in Manhattan in the 1960’s. She returned to Puerto Rico in 1969 and became a successful business owner of a chain of beauty supply retail stores. Doris oversaw the operation of Imperial Wig & Beauty Supply, with five locations in Puerto Rico and one in Orlando, and several related enterprises, including a limousine company and a brand of hair care and cosmetic products.
Doris was incredibly hard-working and driven, always focused on providing for her family. At the age of 50, she became guardian to her grandson, Robert K. Rexach, and raised him as one of her own children. Doris was immensely loved and respected by her family, her friends and clients.
She is preceded in death by her mother and father, as well as her daughter, Catherine Roman, and her son, Albert Roman. She is survived by her daughter, Sandra Roman, grandson, Robert K. Rexach, and granddaughter, Kasandra Holmes, from Florida, and her grandsons, Joseph, Jason and Jonathan Roman, from Connecticut.
A ceremony in memory of Doris will be held on Saturday, March 27, 2021 at 10:30 AM at the Winter Garden Cemetery (13636 Lake Butler Blvd, Winter Garden, FL 34787. For those who may wish to make a charitable donation in Doris Acevedo’s name, the family suggests the Asylum Seeker Advocacy Project (https://asylumadvocacy.org) or Save the Children (https://www.savethechildren.org) based on Doris’ concern for the general safety and well-being of children and in particular children and families who are separated from each other while immigrating to the U.S. Also, for those who will be attending the ceremony, please observe mask wearing for the safety of everyone involved.
