

Dorothy Thornton, age 87, passed away on Monday, October, 8, 2012, in Winter Garden, Florida. She was born on December 2, 1924, to Ilean and William Hurst, in Kennett, MO. She is predeceased in death by her husband, Harrison (Dick) Thornton; parents, son-in-law, Bill Guthrie; 5 sisters; and 3 brothers.
She is survived by her children, Carmelita Guthrie, Linda (and her husband, Frank) Pettis, of Winter Garden, Gary (and his wife, Lisa) Thornton and Joyce (and her husband, George) Cubsted, both from Apopka; special nieces, Carol Daetwiler, Betty Beeman, Phyllis Ward, Shirley Elliott, Diane Pate, and many other nieces and nephews; grandchildren, Robert (and his wife, Heather) Guthrie, Carole Anne Reed, Connie (and her husband, Ken) Lemley, Shelton (and his wife, Rosetta) Pettis, Lorri Sims, and Valerie Cubsted; and 12 great-grandchildren.
Dorothy retired form Martin Marietta after 30 years, but stayed active by making handmade crafts and ceramics. She attended Glad Tidings Assembly of God. She enjoyed being a part of Carmelita's Angels and participating in fundraisers at the Relay for Life.
She was a very special mother, aunt, grandmother and nana.
