On December 31st, 2022, the heart of our family, Dorris Horton, went to be with our Lord and passed peacefully with her family by her side. Dot was born in Cornersville TN on March 6, 1923 to father, Albert Sydney Beatty and mother, Willie Bell Beatty. She was the youngest of 7 children.
While traveling by train to visit her sister during World War 2, she met and fell in love with a handsome soldier, Al Horton. They were happily married for 63 years, moved to central Florida and raised 3 children who were their pride and joy. After the children were raised, Dot went to work as a realtor. In retirement, Dot and Al enjoyed traveling in their RV and visited 49 states, Canada and Mexico. Combing through her recipe books and cooking magazines was a favorite pastime. Dot organized numerous (and memorable!) wedding and baby showers for family and friends and hosted all family gatherings in her home until the age of 97!
Dot loved the Lord with all her heart and she and Al joined Neighborhood Alliance Church when they moved to Longwood FL in 1987. The church quickly became part of their family and Dot was very active serving the church and it's members.
Dot was preceded in death by her husband, Al and her eldest son, Ted. She is survived by her son, Ger Horton, daughter, Barbara Chernega, daughter-in-law, Barbara Jean Horton, grandson, Steve Horton, granddaughters, Sunni Duke and Jackie Chernega and four great grandchildren who she cherished.
It is difficult to summarize the impact Dot had on all who knew and loved her. She'll be remembered as our smart, feisty, kind, good humored, God-fearing Mother and grandmother and memories of her practical jokes and quick wit will live on in our hearts.
We'll close with words that her very closest family and friends will recognize and remember "The moral of the story, I want you to see, When I see an alligator swimming up to me, I say no no no alligator"
Our boss lady will truly be missed.
Services will be held in the chapel at Woodlawn Memorial Park at 2pm on Thursday, January 5.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.woodlawnfuneralhomegotha.com for the Horton family.
