

Scribner, Edith Newman of Orlando, FL (99) passed away on Sunday, January 6, 2013. Edith was born May 16, 1913 in Bartow, FL, the daughter of Heber Peacock Newman, MD and Corinne Williams Newman. She was a fourth generation Floridian, a descendent of pioneer families from Ocala and Ft. White. Edith graduated Summerlin Institute (class of ’31), Bartow, FL and attended Florida State College for Women (FSU), Rollins College, and the University of Central Florida.
In 1942 Edith and her husband Lyman A. (Doc) Scribner, DVM, moved to Orlando where they raised their family. One of their great joys were summer camping trips with their children, traveling as far as the Canadian Rockies, Maine, and Arizona.
As a homemaker, Edith enjoyed gardening, sewing, art, and music. She was an avid reader of the newspaper and made weekly forays to the public library. She was a member of the DAR and the 1st Methodist Church of Orlando.
Her husband of 55 years, Dr. Lyman A. Scribner predeceased her in 1993. She is survived by her son Lyman A. (Tony) Scribner, Jr. and wife Leanne, Gilbert, SC; daughter Linda Scribner Coles and husband Rolston A. Lutz, FL; son Marshall N. Scribner, Orlando, FL; five grandchildren; Kathryn Coles Kooper (Dr. Jeffrey Kooper), Temple Terrace, FL; Corinne Coles Ricci, Gilroy, CA; Lyman A. (Tony) Scribner III, Tampa, FL; Sara Scribner Bonner (Wade Bonner), Irmo, SC; and Sallie Scribner, Boston, MA, and five great grandchildren; Dean, Kyle and Brady Kooper, Temple Terrace, FL and Avery and Reese Bonner, Irmo, SC.

A visitation will be held at 9 am to 10 am, Jan. 11, 2013 at Woodlawn Memorial Park and Funeral Home, followed by the Funeral Service at 10 am.
