

Elizabeth Gooch Daniel, who died on August 11, 2010, was born June 16, 1905 in Spartanburg, South Carolina where she lived until she moved with her family to Orlando in February 1951. She resided in Westminster Towers, 70 West Lucerne Circle. Daughter of the late Lorraine Culcleasure and May Stribling Gooch of Spartanburg, S.C., she was married in 1928 to the late Gilmore Eaves Daniel. Mrs. Daniel attended the public schools of Spartanburg, S.C. and received her A.B. degree from Converse College, Spartanburg in 1926. She taught Latin in the Spartanburg Senior High School. She was active in Presbyterian Church work and women’s activities in both Spartanburg and Orlando; she was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Orlando, a Sunday school teacher, and past president of the Women of the Church. Mrs. Daniel co-chaired the First Presbyterian Church committee that built Westminster Towers, a 19-story high-rise on Orlando’s Lake Lucerne with over 200 residential and 48 assisted living apartment homes, and a 120-bed health center. Mrs. Daniel was a member of Sorosis, the Hibiscus Garden Club, and the league of Women Voters. She was a substitute school teacher and a Pink Lady volunteer at the Orlando Regional Medical Center. Her lifelong interests included bridge, languages, literature, and gardening. Surviving are sons, Gilmore Eaves Daniel, Junior, of Orlando and Ted Lorraine Daniel of Crofton, Maryland; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday August 21, 2010 at 10:30am at First Presbyterian Church, Orlando. A Graveside Service will be held following the Memorial Service at 12:00 noon at Woodlawn Memorial Park in Gotha, Fl.
