1933-2024
Air Force Colonel, dedicated husband, dependable father, and figure among many communities
Fred Schuh Jr., 91, of Orlando, Florida, died peacefully on October 24th, 2024.
He was born on the 6th of March, 1933, in Tucson, Arizona. He was the middle of three children, who were known among the community for their smarts, athletic skills, and good looks. Fred married his high school sweetheart, Doris Bayless before attending the University of Arizona where he played quarterback and earned his bachelor’s.
After graduating he joined the United States Air Force, where he became a skilled pilot, and moved up the ranks. He shared this special time with his beloved wife Doris and their sons, Fred, Mike, and Paul. The boys have many fond memories of visiting their distinguished father on base, making lasting relationships with Air Force families, and seeing their parents glamorously dressed for Air Force events. He earned his 100th Mission Patch, upon completion of his 100th flying mission in the KC-135. Fred successfully retired as a full Colonel at the young age of 49, after serving his country for 26 years. He then resided in Orlando, Florida with Doris and their youngest son. During this time Fred went to work for Orange County Corrections, where he was a sergeant for 10 years. This picturesque life was short lived, as Doris passed away at the early age of 53.
Grief did not reside in the Schuh house for long, as a kindhearted, beautiful, and supportive widow named Jackie was introduced to Fred through friends. Their connection was instantaneous and beautifully combined two families. His life and the lives of his family were enhanced by the addition of Jackie’s children, Rick, Cindy, and Jenny. Together Fred and Jackie made many memories alongside his brother, Paul and wife Judy, and sister-in-law June and husband Len. Their golden years were blissfully spent sightseeing, drinking cocktails while working on their tans, and attending many college and Air Force reunions. Together they have spent many years sharing their home, stories and love with their grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Fred and Jackie celebrated their 37th wedding anniversary in June of this year. Fred’s love and desire to care for and protect Jackie was never-ending.
This decorated Vietnam Veteran, husband, father, and grandfather will be missed beyond measure. A viewing for Fred will be held on Monday, November 4th from 10:30 to 11:30. The service will start at 11:30, followed by a military burial with honors. The service will be held at Woodlawn Funeral Home & Memorial Park, 400 Woodlawn Cemetery Road, Gotha, Florida.
