Gary Dale Mooty, 70, of Groveland, Florida, passed away on June 26, 2025. Born on October 28, 1954, in Orlando, Gary was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend whose quick wit, sharp sense of humor, and unwavering dedication to those he loved left a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know him.
Gary shared 48 wonderful years of marriage with his wife, Debbie, building a life rooted in love, laughter, and family. He was a proud father to his son, Brian Mooty (Keeley), and daughter, Tracy Butler (Carlos), and a grandfather to five grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph and Verna Mae Mooty, and his brothers, Dennis and Vernon. His memory will be cherished by those he leaves behind, especially his wife Debbie, children Brian and Tracy, their spouses, and his five grandchildren.
A hardworking and driven man, Gary built and ran Gary Mooty Landscaping for 30 years, taking pride in designing and shaping properties across the community. After stepping back from his business, he spent 20 years driving a school bus for Lake County Schools.
Gary also enjoyed spending time outdoors, especially airboating through Florida’s backwaters and camping with friends. Those adventures were some of his favorite ways to unwind, have a drink, share laughs, and make lasting memories. Gary was an avid Miami Dolphins fan, cheering faithfully through every season, and always holding onto hope for the next big win.
He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
A celebration of Gary’s life will be held on Saturday, July 19th at the family’s home in Groveland. Please reach out to the family for more details. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you honor Gary by planting something green, cheering on the Dolphins, or simply lending a hand to someone in need.
A graveside service for Gary will be held Thursday, July 3, 2025 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Woodlawn Memorial Park Funeral Home, 400 Woodlawn Cemetery Rd, Gotha, FL 34734.
