George Henry Heisey, Jr. was received by our Lord on February 24, 2022 at the age of 91. He was born on June 5, 1930 in Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania, and grew up in Orlando, FL. He graduated from Toccoa Falls College in Georgia. George married the love of his life, Carol Haler, on June 3, 1965 and was a resident of Apopka for 55 years. After marrying, he earned a Master’s degree at the University of Georgia.
Mr. Heisey was best known for serving his country and community. He is a veteran of the US Navy and served in the Korean War. He also served on the Apopka City Council in the late 1980s. He was immersed in the Christian community, spending countless hours serving at his church, helping on several ministries, including feeding the homeless each week, and being an ordained Deacon. George took several mission trips to Belize to help build a church there, and he also visited the Holy Land (Israel) with his son, Mike. Throughout the years, George and his late wife Carol opened their home to more than 17 teenagers, allowing them to live with them during their time of need. Many people attribute their success and faith to George and Carol's loving outreach.
Mr. Heisey’s legacy of faith will live on for generations. An avid Bible scholar, he obtained a Doctorate of Ministries degree at age 60. He loved the word of God and wrote sermons by hand to pass out to his community. He also was an active member of The Gideons International which helps place copies of the Bible in hotel rooms, hospitals, & other locations. George loved sudoku, Yankees baseball, and the color yellow. When asked why he loved yellow, he would tell the story of when he met his beloved wife, Carol, who wore a yellow dress on their first date.
Mr. Heisey was an educator for over 35 years and coached as well, mostly in Central Florida. The only thing George loved more than teaching was sports officiating. He was a referee for over 50 years and was inducted into the Central Florida Officials Association Hall of Fame in 2008.
George is survived by his four children, Mike (and wife Christine), Rebecca, George (and wife Sybel) and Matt (and wife Jessa); nine grandchildren Jamie, Michael Jr, Julia, Henry, Grant, Elise, Kathryn, Carolyn and Zoey; and great-grandchildren Bayleigh and Charlie Kate.
