Mrs. Stuppard was born on July 3, 1922 in Saint Marc, Haiti. She met and married her elementary school sweetheart, Maurice in the 1940’s and they came to the USA to study at Shaw University in Raleigh, NC. Together they were a powerful couple who devoted their lives to public service of helping the Haitian people. Gracieuse assisted with physical needs of the people through being a Registered Nurse and Maurice by saving souls as an Ordained Minister and spreading the gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ. Together, they had over 50 years of public service. She was very instrumental in educating her family and the people she touched, especially when it came to learning about the Bible. She taught countless people to read and write and encouraged all of her family to seek and achieve the highest education they could.
Gracieuse traveled extensively throughout her life. Her extensive travels included Jerusalem in the Holy Land; Paris, France; London, England; Luxembourg; Germany; Switzerland; Jamaica; Canada; and more than 25 US States, including Hawaii. She enjoyed taking her children and family on these ventures where she loved taking photos of them and the scenery. She passes on the legacy of contagious happiness and joking to her family.
Above all, Gracieuse was a devout Christian. She was the wife of a pastor and she continued his legacy until her death. Her favorite word was Jesus and everyone who knew her will find her Bible well used and read. It is very fitting that she went to her eternal reward with Jesus while a family member was praying with her.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Maurice P. Stuppard; children, Enive Coicou and Ernst Stuppard; her siblings, Anthilde Beaujour, Tulie Chery, and Maurice Poteau.
Those left to cherish her memory are her loving daughter, Nicole (Eddy) Stuppard Michel; son-in-law, Josue Coicou; sons, Danny Stuppard, Franz (Martine) Stuppard, Serge Stuppard, Dr. Charles (Nidda) Stuppard, Alphonse Stuppard; daughter, Lydia (Pastor Paul) Coicou; sister-in-law, Juliette Stuppard; 23 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family members.
The family will receive friends from 9-10 am on Sunday, July 21, 2019 at Woodlawn Funeral Home with funeral services following at 10 am. Interment will follow in Woodlawn Memorial Park.
