Helen Shirley Garza

On March 21, 1948, an angel named Shirley was born. The world could not have been more blessed. A born mother from the start, she cared for and loved each of her six brothers while growing up. She then went on to have five children whom she loved unconditionally and without judgment. She never stepped away from her faith and love for her children. She was the most selfless woman you would ever know and was happiest when taking care of others. Faith, family and friends were her strength in life. Throughout her 30+ years of providing child care, she was not only a mother to her own but to countless other children and their children as well. Words cannot describe what she has meant to each one of us. We all have our own special memories of her and moments that we shared. She had a way with words like no one else and everyone looked to her for advice. She gave it with wisdom and love yet without judgment. She will be forever in our hearts as her spirit guides us through the rest of our lives. For mom it was the the simple treasures in life that truly made her happy…the sound of laughter, a mountain stream, the smell of gardenias and most of all family. Once family, always family and to our mother everyone was family. On May 2, 2012 God asked to have his angel back but promised to let her still watch over us from heaven.
