Helen Harmon was born January 9, 1945 in Detroit, Michigan. She was the oldest of three children born to Robert and Helen Miller. She has a sister, Linda, and a deceased brother David. She cared for and protected her siblings all of her life. She graduated from Edgewater High School in 1963. She taught Sunday school. She also helped open Disney in 1971. She married Lon Cutting and they have a daughter, Melissa. She worked hard and obtained a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree in Industrial Psychology. She used her degree to counsel others and help people regain jobs after serious injuries. She learned how to sew at a young age and used her gift to give so much happiness to those she loved. She made her and her sister’s Easter dresses every year. She also made her daughter and granddaughter’s clothes. Giving to others brought her a lot of joy. She received her certificate in clowning and brought joy to everyone she touched. She absolutely loved animals and rescued so many and gave them a loving home. The Red Hat Society was a very important part of her life. She loved spending time with her dear friends. She enjoyed all of the gatherings and closeness with them.
Helen was such a wonderful, hard-working, single mom. She worked two jobs while pursuing her master’s degree to give her and her daughter a better life. She always made sure they had several fun days together as a family. Melissa will always treasure her memories together with her mom. She taught her how to raise her children well. She taught her to cook, sew, and many other things. Most of all, she taught her the value to love and to give to others. She made her family laugh. She has three grandchildren and one great grandchild that she loved very much. Her abundance of strength and courage, determination, hope and faith will live in her daughter forever.
Even though her life brought her so many illnesses she never let that stop her from enjoying life. When she received the news that she had cancer, she never gave up fighting. She lost her battle on April 17, 2017. We admire her most for her courage. She taught us so much through her struggle. She taught humbleness. She was always thankful for what God gave her. She believed she had a good life. The most important thing that can be told about Helen is she is with Jesus now and is not suffering anymore. She said recently she wanted to serve the Lord more. We are looking forward to seeing her again and spending time together. We love you Helen! Your smile lit up every room!
From Her Daughter Melissa: I love you with all of my heart and soul mommy and will see you soon in heaven. You were with me for my first breath. I was with you for your last. We will breathe together again.
