Helen June Guest Howard, age 88, passed away on Thursday, January 31, 2019 in Orlando, Fl. She was born in Elizabethtown, Kentucky to Mitchell and Gladys (Puckett) Guest and was the oldest of three children. Helen was married to Aaron Gene Howard and had two children; Mike and Rhonda. Helen grew up in the Louisville, Kentucky area, lived overseas with her husband while he served in the Army in Germany, and later moved to Florida with her family.
Helen led an extraordinary life. She graduated from Louisville’s Ahrens Business School and began her professional career at Louisville Slugger where she met many of the legendary baseball greats. She then went on to work for the US Government and at Fort Knox where she met her husband. After returning from Germany, Helen lived on Terra Ceia Island where she began working for First Federal Savings and Loan of Manatee County in 1960 where she was named Assistant Treasurer as one of the first female bank executive officers in Florida. She then moved to Orlando with her family where she began her career at the Department of Motor Vehicles. Helen retired from the DMV at the age of 72 where she was one of three Divisional Bureau Chiefs in the state of Florida. Helen was a loyal and dedicated member of Hyland Baptist Church. Helen always exemplified true Christian values and touched all who met her with her quiet, calm, and patient demeanor with unwavering compassion.
Helen is preceded by her beloved relatives including her husband Gene and brothers, Ronnie and Rod. She is survived by her son Mike (Betty) and daughter Rhonda (Tim); 5 grandchildren Stacy, Michael, Mitchell, Renee, and Timothy Jr; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Funeral Services will be held on Monday, February 4th at 10:00 a.m. in the chapel of Woodlawn Memorial Funeral Home and Memorial Park, Gotha, FL.
