She was born January 8, 1923 in Johnstown, Pennsylvania to the late Chester & Margaret (Bollerhey) Souser.
Helen was a proud World War II Veteran of the United States Marine Corps. She also worked as a retail pricing clerk and a PE assistant at an elementary school in different chapters of her life. But, the other largest chapter in her life was as a homemaker.
After retirement, Helen remained very active in her community. She was a skilled quilter and created blankets for the Fire Department to give to children, as well as tablecloths. She was part of the Red Hat ladies, participated in the ladies' activities with her late husband, Melvin's Shriners, helped in her community rummage sales, attended their dances and played piano and cards in her other free time.
Helen will be remembered for her wit and her strength.
She is preceded in death by her dear parents; her beloved husband, Melvin C. Young and siblings, Richard Souser (Kennett Square, PA), Eleanor Donatiello (Youngstown, OH), Miriam J. Miller (Lancaster, PA), Kathryn Reese (Lancaster, PA) and Doris Ober (Elizabethtown, PA).
Helen is survived by her loving daughter, Pamela J. Sweat (Clermont, FL), many nieces & nephews and her beloved cousin, Lois.
