Herbert Eldridge Felty, Jr. 89, of Clermont, Florida went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday July 12, 2016. Mr. Felty was born in Ashland, Kentucky on August 5, 1926 to the late Herbert E. Sr. and Katherine Triplett Felty. Mr. Felty married Maxine Avanell Lewis Felty in 1949 and had one child Krista Ann Felty Casterline (Terrance) of Clermont, Florida. Krista has one child, Jeana Michelle Hammonds Mischka (Randall) who lives in Clermont, Florida and they have three children Austin Shane Mischka, Alyssa Avanell Mischka and Kyle William Brown. Mr. Felty is also survived by his brother Nando Frank Felty (Betty) of Ashland, Kentucky. Mr. Felty graduated from Boyd County High School and spent almost three years working in the Naval Shipyards in Norfolk, Virginia. While serving in the U.S. Navy Seabees during WW II, he spent several months in naval hospitals in Boston and Springfield, Massachusetts and also in Palm Beach, Florida following an attack of Rheumatic Fever which resulted in a heart problem and an honorable medical discharge. After returning home to Ashland he attended Ashland Junior College and then began working at A&P Tea Company where he stayed for 9 ½ years. During his years there he worked as a butcher in the Meat Department, he then was sent to Gallipolis, Ohio as a manager of the Meat Department. Mr. Felty left the grocery chain to go to work for Armco Steel Corporation where he worked in the West Processing Department for 35 years before retiring in 1991. After retiring he and Maxine relocated to Clermont, Florida in 1998. While in Florida he suffered two heart attacks and was told by his cardiologist that if he did not have an operation, he wouldn’t live out that year of 2011. He entered ORMC and went through surgery to replace two valves in his heart and spent the next two months in a Rehab Center in Windermere recuperating and going through extensive therapy to regain his ability to walk again, which didn’t happen until he was home for a while with home health nurses assisting him weekly. After a long recovery he was then able to drive again for which he was thankful to God. He always praise God and honored him and was thankful for bringing him back to his family who meant so much to him. Herbert also was very thankful for his daughter and her husband Terry. He would often say I don’t know what my wife and I would have done if it wasn’t for them who never left their side and who was always so helpful and attentive throughout this ordeal. Mr. Felty was a former board member of Grace Nazarene Church and also first Church of the Nazarene while Maxine was the organist for many years in Ashland. Since relocating to Clermont Herbert and Maxine attended Family Christian Center in Clermont. Herbert will be missed by all who knew and loved him. Visitation will be held on Saturday July 16, 2016 from 10:00 am to 11:00 am with a funeral service to follow at Woodlawn Funeral Home, 400 Woodlawn Cemetery Road Gotha, Florida 34734.
